You should always make sure that your home's electrical systems are in good shape and as up-to-date as possible. If there are problems with your electrical systems, you run the risk of things like shorted out circuits, destroyed electronics, or even a house fire. So, when you see some signs that you need to get some electrical work done, you want to make sure that you call an electrician as soon as possible. You always want to make sure that you have a licensed electrician, like those at Street Brothers Electric, do the work for you because you want to make sure it's done correctly. So, what are some signs that you should look for?

Funky Burning Rubber Smell

If you are picking up a burning rubber smell in your house, especially around your outlets, then that can be a sign that you need to have your electrical system upgraded. You may also notice scorch marks on electrical outlets and the plugs, or the outlets may be hot. Those are signs that your electrical system, whether it's your whole system or just that particular circuit, is overheating. An overheating circuit can start a fire. Electrical fires are sneaky. They can burn for a while before you realize that they are burning. That's because they smolder in your walls and in your insulation until they get to the right point and start burning where you can see the fire. However, by that time, it may already be too late.

Frequent Circuit Breaks

A circuit break happens when your fuse burns out or your circuit breaker is tripped. These are signs that your electrical system is overloaded. An overloaded system does what it can to protect itself, which means that it shuts itself down. It does this by burning out the fuse or tripping the trigger. That kills the overloaded circuit. When you replace the fuse or turn the circuit breaker back on, you complete the circuit again. As soon as that particular circuit gets overloaded again, it's going to break itself. Normally, your circuits shouldn't break often, you may go months or years in between circuit breaks, but if it's happening much more frequently than that, then you need to have an electrician come out and figure out what is going on with your system so that it will behave.

Knowing some of the signs that you should upgrade your electrical system can mean that you can head off problems at the pass.
